Data encryption

The translation of data, or plain text, into a secret code, or cipher text. Encryption is the most effective way to make data secure. Access to the appropriate password or secret key is necessary to read an encrypted file. See also Cipher, Cryptography, Blowfish encryption algorithm, Decription.
