User interface
Interfaces facilitate communication between different computer systems or allow people to communicate with machines (and vice versa). Interfaces can be software, such as the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of Microsoft WindowsR, or hardware (user interface), e.g. the physical connections between, say, a simple terminal and a host computer. Interfaces use an agreed protocol ('language') to send and receive information from one machine to another.
